What is location as an aspect of place?
• Where a place is
• Continent, Country, County, City
• Coordinates (latitude and longitude)
What is locale as an aspect of place?
• Setting of everyday activities
• Provide location for social interactions
• Location of an event
• Connected by transport and internet
• Shaped by people, cultures, customs within it
What is sense of place?
• Emotional attachment and opinion of a place
• Unique to each person
• Influenced by personal experiences, media, and their general perspective
What is an insider?
• Someone that may live in or have a strong connection with a place.
• They may feel safe, secure and part of a community
What is an outsider?
• Someone who feels out of place
• Doesn’t understand the culture and customs of the place, feeling insecure
What are near places?
• An area that is physically nearby
• Emotionally attached to a place
What are far places?
• Place that is physically far away
• Viewed as alien or exotic to a person
• No understanding of it
What are experienced places?
A place someone has experienced being in
What are media places?
• Places where a person only has knowledge from it via the internet. • Understanding may be distorted and incorrect
• TV shows like East Enders providing an idea of life in East London but not entirely accurate
What is placemaking?
Regeneration and reimagine of a place to improve the environment, facilities and QoL
What is a clone town?
Area dominated by chain stores
What is glocalisation?
TNCs adapting to a local market place i.e McDonalds on Hindu countries removing beef from menu
