Name some stakeholders of Salford Quays
Residents, SCC, Tourists, Property developers, external corporations
Describe potential conflict between residents of Quays and Ordsall
• Quays dominated by apartments which are too expensive for local families
• 30% of Salford residents “highly deprived” or in “extreme deprivation”
• Clear divide between Ordsall and Quays on other side of road - Local working class become outsiders
Describe distribution of BBC employees based on origin
• Initially, 2000 staff moved into new BBC complex but only 24 were from the Quays, even though over 3000 applicants most were relocations rather than new jobs
• However, 81% of employees are now from Greater Manchester
How have migration of big corporations benefited Salford Quays?
• 26000 jobs in 2015 in the Quays (23000 more than docks in 1982)
• TalkTalk, Kelloggs and AJ Bell bring 3000 jobs
• More businesses attracted here and more retail jobs so more positive multiplier effect
• Attracts smaller-to-medium enterprises aswell
