Lymphatic System Flashcards
Functions of the Lymphatic System?
- Drains excess fluids, returning leaked fluid back into the circulatory system.
- Aids the immune system, lymph collects foreign particles and they get filtered out by lymph nodes.
- Absorption of nutrients, collects products of fat digestion from small intestines.
Transportation?
Transports water, cells, immune responses and waste materials.
Lymph Vessels?
Carry the lymph.
Lymphatic Duct?
Drain lymph back into the circulatory system.
Lymph?
The fluid inside the lymph vessels.
Lymph Node Functions?
- Filter the lymph
- Assist immune system
- House lymphocytes
B-Lymphocytes?
Antibodies to lock onto bacteria and antigens.
T-Lymphocytes?
Locate foreign bodies and destroy them.
Anti-Diuretic Hormone (ADH):
Release when an animal is dehydrated, high levels of ADH re-absorbed water back into the body.
Less ADH is released when an animal is hydrated and more water is expelled from the body.
Top of lymph node: Afferent Lymphatic Vessel
Bottom of lymph node: Efferent Lymphatic Vessel
Water?
Regulated by ADH which controls how much water is reabsorbed into the kidneys.
