Neuron System Flashcards
Central Nervous System Function?
Central Nervous System Structure?
Function: co-ordinates responses.
Structure: brain and spinal cord.
Peripheral Nervous System Function?
Peripheral Nervous System Structure?
Function: Nerve cells that carry information to and from the Central Nervous System (CNS)
Structure: CNS
Autonomic Nervous System Function?
Autonomic Nervous System Structure?
Function: Part of the Peripheral Nervous System (PNS) that regulates involuntary processes. (Heart rate, respiration and digestion).
Structure: PNS
Afferent and Efferent?
Afferent: (Sensory) neurons, takes sense information from the body to the CNS.
Efferent: (Motor) neurons, takes motor information from the CNS to the rest of the body.
Autonomic Nerves?
Stimulate the Autonomic Nervous System (ANS).
Synapses?
- Travel through neurons
Electrical impulses travel from axon to axon terminal which releases neurotransmitter across synapse.
Neurotransmitter is picked-up by receptors and sends electrical impulses along to the next neuron.
