Organs Flashcards
(23 cards)
BRAIN Cerebrum?
Cerebral cortex, higher thinking, memory, language.
BRAIN Midbrain?
Pathway for nerve fibres carrying information from hearing and light senses.
BRAIN Cerebellum?
Balance and co-ordination, smooth body movements.
BRAIN Medulla?
Controls breathing, heart rate and blood pressure.
EYES Sclera?
Tough connective tissue layer, the front forms a transparent cornea.
EYES Cornea
Where light enters the eye.
EYES Uvea
Middle layer of the eye, attaches to the sclera at the exit of the optic nerve, made up of chlorid, tapetum ludium, ciliary body, suspensory ligament and iris.
EYES Iris
Pigmented which gives the colour of the eye, controls how much light enters through the pupil.
EYES Pupil
Hole within the iris which allows light to enter.
EYES Suspensory Ligament
Supports the lens.
SKIN Epidermis
Waterproof, top thick layer.
SKIN Dermis
Thickest layer, strength and flexibility.
SKIN Subcutaneous Layer
Insulation, largest vessels and nerves.
SKIN Sweat Gland
Forms sweat which controls body temperatures.
SKIN Oil Gland
Produces oils which protect and moisten skin.
EYE Cillary Body
Delivers nutrients and oxygen to the eye and controls the shape of the lens.
EYE Chloroid
Contains blood vessels supplying all of the eye.
EYE Tapetum Lucidium
Reflect light back to photoreceptor cells.
EYE Retina
Contains photoreceptor cells.
EYE Fovea
Most sensitive area.
EYE Optic Disc
No rods or cones present (blind spot)
EYE Optic Nerve
Back of eye which transmits impulses to the brain from the retina.
