What is the annual inspection?

A

every 12 calendar months - requreid by regulation - complete inspection of an aircraft and engine - only A&P tech holding an inspection authroization can conduct this inspection

What aircraft need a 100 hour?

A

All aircraft under 12,500lbs used to carry pax for hire (no turbojet, turboprop multiengine)

Aircraft used for instruction for hire (if it isn’t YOUR plane)

Difference between annual and 100 hour?

A

Main difference is who can do the inspection. ONly an A&P mechanice with inspection authorization can perform an annual.

A 100 hour can be done by A&P without an IA.

Operating beyond 100 hour for inspection

A

A plane can be operated up to 10 hours beyond 100 while en route to a place where 100hr can be accomplished. The next 100 hour will occur from the original 100 hour time, not when it was performed.

Can you fly if the annual inspection date has passed?

A

Yes but only to a location where the inspection can be performed and must get a Special FLight Permit from FAA. All AD”s must be complied with before the flight

What is a special flight permit and when are the necessary?

A

SFP may be issued for an aircrat that may not currently meet applicable airworthiness reqs but capable of safe flight

a. flying to get repairs/alterations/mx or for storage
b. delivering or exporting
c. production flight testing new aircraft
d. evacuating aircraft from imepdning danger
e. customer demo flights in new airplane

Can a pilot legally conduct flight ops with known inoperative equipment onboard?

A

Yes under specific conditions. Part 91 describes in detail

R - Reg. 91.205 Is it required by the reg?

A - is it required by the Airworthiness directive?

K - Kind of ops. Equipment list - if your flight school is part141 or if it’s a part 135 operation or you have some sort of a Flight manual for the aircraft in your organization check if the item is required by that.

E - Equipment List (POH one) check the POH required equipment list for that specific aircraft. Is the bronken item on there?

T - Is the item required by the type rating for the Aircraft?

S - is the malfunction going to sacrifice the safety of flight?

Define preventive mx

A

PReventive mx means simple or minor preservation and replacement of small standard parts not involving complex assembly.

Certified pilots not students may perform pmx.

Part 43 appndix A identifies examples such as oil changes, wheel bearing lubrication, hydraulic fluid refills
