when do we set mat cond X?
when ship is in no danger of attack. fittings classified as X should be closed at all times. provides minimum level of protection.
when do we set mat cond Y?
at sea or in port outside normal working hours. both X and Y are secured. Moderate level of protection
when do we set Z?
set at condition 1. all X,Y and Z fittings secured. Maximum level of portection
circle Y?
fittings used for access. when transiting to battle stations. transferring ammo. space equipment checks.
circle C?
can be opened without permission but must be shut immediately.
circle Z?
set with zebra
used for operating during extended battle conditions. (battle messing, limited use of heads, ventilating battle stations, transiting squadrons to flight deck)
only opened with COs permission
DZ(dog zebra)?
set with zebra
used for darken ship to prevent light from escaping to weather decks.
Circle W?
normally open. secured to prevent CBRN contamination. Requires COs permission to set(close)
W fittings?
normally open
provides services to vital systems
only secured to control damage, prevent contamination or repair equipment.
mod z?
driven by ship’s policy mainly.
between Y and Z. provides better survivability, faster response and enough accessibility for long term use.
can be set for Unrep/Vertrep, air ops, amphib ops, heavy weather.
