Q

What are the advantages of using the SD over the range?

A

-SD shows the spread of data around the mean, wheras the range is onlt the difference between the highest and lowest value.
-SD reduces the abnormalties, where as the range includes anomalies
-SD can be used to indicate whether a difference between results is significance.

Q

Why would knowing the SD be more useul for a conclusion?

A

If you add or minus the standard deviation from the means there is no overlap this indicates it is likely to be a significant difference.

overlap= not a significant difference.
