Mosienko et al. ANIMAL STUDY Flashcards
(6 cards)
1
Q
key terms
A
gene ablating
TPH2 gene
aggression
2
Q
aim
A
to investigate the effect of removal of TPH2 gene on aggression
3
Q
method
A
ablation of the gene in a group of mice
-> comparison of behavior with a control group
tests to study the effects of knocking out the gene one of which was a resident-intruder test
4
Q
results
A
when introducing knockout mice to control group, knockouts attacked 6 times faster
- total time spent attacking and the total number of attacks was 7 times larger
- 100% attacked within 5min compared to 22% of the other group
(resident-intruder lasts for 10min)
5
Q
conclusion
A
knocking out the TPH2 gene may cause a significant increase in aggression
it is a possible explanation for ow serotonin dysfunction could be the result of TPH2 gene being turned off
6
Q
TPH2 gene
A
tryptophan hydroxylase 2
involved in the production of serotonin
