Q

method

A

ablation of the gene in a group of mice
-> comparison of behavior with a control group

tests to study the effects of knocking out the gene one of which was a resident-intruder test

Q

results

A

when introducing knockout mice to control group, knockouts attacked 6 times faster

  • total time spent attacking and the total number of attacks was 7 times larger
  • 100% attacked within 5min compared to 22% of the other group

(resident-intruder lasts for 10min)

Q

conclusion

A

knocking out the TPH2 gene may cause a significant increase in aggression

it is a possible explanation for ow serotonin dysfunction could be the result of TPH2 gene being turned off
