A set of expectations (norms) about a social position defining how those in position out to behave
Role
Unjustifiable negative behavior toward a group and its members
Discrimination
The theory that we explain someone’s behavior by crediting either the situation or the person’s disposition
Attribution theory
Adjusting our behavior or thinking to coincide with group standard
Conformity
An unjustifiable and usually negative attitude toward a group and its members. Generally involves stereotyped belief, negative feelings, and a predisposition to discriminatory action
Prejudice
The theory that we act to reduce the discomfort we feel when two of our thoughts are inconsistent.
Cognitive dissonance theory

Altruism
Any physical or verbal behavior intended to hurt or destroy

Feelings, often influenced by our beliefs , that predispose us to respond in a particular way to objects, people, and events

A generalized (sometimes accurate but often over generalized belief about a group.

Normative Social Influence: going along with others in pursuit of social approval or belonging (and to avoid disapproval/rejection
Informational social influence: going along with others because their ideas and behavior makes sense the evidence in our social environment changes our mind
What this an example of? Individual performance is intensified when you are observed by others
Social facilitation
What is this an example of? Someone in a group project is slacking off and doesn’t do any of the work.
Social loafing
What is this an example of? Riots, KKK rallies, concerts. He loss of self awareness no self restraint.
Deindividuation
What is this an example of? When people of similar views form a group together, discussion within the group makes their views more extreme.
Group polarization
What is this an example of? In pursuit of social harmony groups will make decisions without an open exchange of ideas.
Groupthink
He wanted to study the influence of direct commands on behavior by doing an experiment where the person or the tester gets shocked every time they say an incorrect answer.
Milgram
Name some obedience factors.
When orders were given by someone with legitimate authority, someone associated with a prestigious institution, or someone standing close by.
When the learner/ victim is in the other room
Merely seeing someone’s face and the name makes them more like able. Your more likely to develop attraction to someone you’ve seen a lot.
