Territorality
A fundamental spect of human behavior and refers to people’s need to lay claim to the spaces they occupy and the things they own.
Behavioral Setting
A particular place with definable boundaries and objects in which a sanding pattern occurs at a particular time.
Intimate Distance
Range is from 0” to 1’-6”. Only allowable under special conditions.
Public Distance
Range is from 12’-0” outward. The greatest amount of formality can be achieved at this distance.
Personal Distance
Range is from 1’-6” to 2’-6”. People will maintain at least this distance between themselves and others.
Social Distance
Range is from 4’-0” to 7’-0” through 12’-0”. The distance at which most impersonal business, work and other interactions take place between strangers or informal situations.
Proxemics
Edward T. Hall observation and theory that deals with the issues of spacing between people, territorality, organization of space, and positioning of people in space, all relative to the culture of which they are a part.
Hierarchy of Needs
Abraham Maslow’s theory that humans have a variety of needs, which he divided into two groups: deficiency needs and growth needs.The most basics needs must be met first before a person can move tot he next highest level of needs satisfaction.
