Nervey Stuff Flashcards
(31 cards)
Difference between axon and dendrite
Axon carries impulse AWAY from cell body.
Dendrite carries TOWARDS cell body
Three main functions of nervous system
- Receive info external or internal environment
- Respond to stimuli
- Maintain homeostasis.
Three kinds of neurons
- Sensory
- Interneuron
- Motor
What do sensory neurons do
Pick up stimuli from internal or external environment and send to CNS
What do interneurons do
Connect nerves
What do motor neurons do
Send an impulse to a muscles
What is an impulse
Message neuron carries
How does a message travel across a synapse
By way of chemical release/ neurotransmitter
A ________is what your body does in reaction to a stimulus
Response
A bundle of nerve fiber is
A nerve
Any change or signal in the environment that can make an organism react is
A stimulus
A cell that carries info through nervous system is called
Neuron
Where is the nucleus located in neuron
The middle/ in cell body
Synapse?
Beginning of next dendrite etc. it’s that tiny space between
Two parts of nervous system
Central nervous system (CNS)
Peripheral nervous system (PNS)
Two parts of CNS
Brain
Spinal cord
Three parts of brain
Cerebrum
Cerebellum
Brain stem
Two parts of PNS
Automatic nervous system
Somatic nervous system
Function of automatic nervous system
Involuntary actions
Function of somatic nervous system
Voluntary actions
What does cerebrum do
Interprets senses
Carries out hard mental tasks
What does the cerebellum control
Muscles
Keeps balance
What does brain stem do
Controls involuntary actions
Link between brain and PNS
Spinal cord
