SSRIS - Antidepressants

A

Serotonin regulates aggression, eating, sleep, depression
Low levels = OCD
Increase serotonin levels for Depression + OCD
Prevent re-uptake process, increase amount in synapse = reduces anxiety

Block re-uptake of BOTH serotonin AND noradrenaline

Benzodiazepines - Anti anxiety drugs

Slow activity of CNS by enhancing GABA
GABA locks onto receptors on neurons in brain
Opens channel (this increases chloride ions to neuron)
CI make it harder to be stimulated
Slows activity of neurons
(XANEX, VALIUM)
