Differential diagnosis
A
• early pterygium
• inflammatory conditions of conjunctiva / sclera

Signs
A
• raised yellowish lesion
• bulbar conjunctiva
• doesn’t cross limbus
• more prominent and yellow with age
• can become inflamed

Symptoms
A
• usually asymptomatic
• mild FB sensation
• cosmetic concern
• can cause irritation / tolerance issues with CL

Pathogenesis
A
• degeneration of conjunctival collagen, can be senile.
• exposure to UV, hot / dry conditions
• welding / other professions
• CL wear

Treatment
A
• patient reassured
• cosmetically unacceptable- GP
• UV protection and discussion of protecting rest of adnexa
• ocular lubricants
• GP referral if not resolving
