Possible Question Flashcards

1
Q

What is the meaning when you’re “choking” an engine?

A

We do the choking specially when starting an engine in a cold weather condition. The meaning of choking an engine is that, you will restrict the flow of air in an engine so that you can attain the fuel-rich condition offuel in combustion.

Q

Explain valve overlapping deeply in just a minute.

A

The valve overlapping happens just after the exhaust stroke. As we can remember, there are 4 important events that happens during the combustion process. Intake, compression, power, and exhaust. Why does the two valves (intake and exhaust valve) need to open at the same time? Because of the “Scavenging” process. Scavenging process is the removal of exhaust gas by blowing of fresh air into the combustion space. If that process is not properly done, you will have a problem in the next cycle because of the remaining exhaust gas in the combustion space. You will have a problem in compression, because you’re compressing a hot air and hot air is less dense which is one of the requirements for a good combustion. Additionally, the scavenging process it to help cool the cylinder liner, piston, and combustion space in addition to driving away the exhaust gases and providing fresh charge air for the next cycle.

Q

What is the difference between risk and hazard?

A

A hazard is anything that could cause harm. And, risk, is a combination of two things – the chance that the hazard will cause harm and how serious that harm could be.

Q

What is permit to work you know and give the example of each

A

Hot work permit - The presence of flammable materials in the equipment. · The presence of combustible materials that burn or give off flammable vapors when heated
Confined space - are used when entering any confined space such as a tank, scavenge spaces, or any other space with just one entry point.
Electrical work permit - is a document issued to authorized personnel to perform electrical work on a specific circuit or equipment.
Height work permit - is an authorization to work on elevated areas above 2 m.
Chemical work permit - Authorization to work with harmful chemical substances or in a chemically induced atmosphere that is either toxic or corrosive by nature

Q

Difference between the incident and near miss

A

Incident: something did occur, and harm was caused.
Hazard: something could occur.
Near Miss: something did occur but there was no harm caused.

A near miss is an unintentional workplace incident that could have resulted in damage, injury, or death but was narrowly avoided. An incident, on the other hand, is any unintended event that could lead to or has led to damage, injury, or death. It includes both near misses and accidents.

Q

How to calculate from liters to metric tons

A

First you need to find the density of your liquid. For water, it’s 1000 kg/m³. Then you divide by the number of litres in a cubic metre (coincidentally 1000) to get the weight per litre (1). Then you divide by the number of kg in a ton (coincidentally 1000) to get 0.001 tons.
