Q

At what lung volume is TPR the lowest in the pulmonary circulation? Why?

A

lowest at FRC (after tidal exhale);

  • breathing out more decreases the radial stretch of incoming arteries and ↑ intrathoracic pressure
  • inhaling more stretches the capillaries around alveoli
