RCA Head and Neck Lecture 3 Bone and muscle Flashcards
(14 cards)
what ligament do the spinous process of the cervical region attach to
the ligamentum nuchae
whats the most prominent vertebrae of the cervical region and whats it called
C7, the bunp that forms at the back of the neck.
its called the vertebra prominens
whats the transverse ligament of the atlas and what is its function
it is a strong band between the medial surfaces of the lateral masses of C1 ( the atlas)
it functions to told the dens of C2 against the anterior arch of the atlas
what are the cruciform ligaments
ligaments coming off the transverse ligament in the vertical plane superiorly and inferiorly
occipital bone superiorly
body of C2 inferiorly
whats the tectorial membrane
a membrane that covers the cruciform ligament and dens
where does the tectorial membrane run to and from
its a continuation of the posterior longitudinal ligament so runs from there and reaches the anterior half of magnum
alar ligament span
from sides of the dens to the lateral margin of the foramen magnum
alar ligament function
check excessive rotation of the head and the atlas relative to the axis
span of the thyroid gland
C5-T1
what are the muscles of the soft palate
Tensor palati, levator palati, palatoglossus,
palatopharyngeus and uvula muscle.
whats the nerve suppy and function of the tensor palatini
branch of the mandibular nerve
tenses the soft palate and opens the auditory tube
whats the function and nerve supply of the levator palatini
pharyngeal plexus - specifically the pharyngeal branch of the vagus
elecates the soft palate
function of the palatoglosus muscle
pulls the tongue up and constricts the oropharyngeal isthmus
whats the function of the palatopharyngeus muscle
elevate the pharynx and larynx or depresses the soft palate
