What are general right Realists ideas?
Mostly hold the individual responsible for their crimes and believe we need to be tough on criminals to reduce crime.
What does Cornish and Clarke say?
Rational choice theory
- criminals weigh up the risk and punishment against the reward to decide whether or not they commit crime.
What do Cohen and Felson say?
The 3 conditions needed for crime
1. individuals who are motivated to offend
2. Availability of opportunity and targets
3. Lack of capable guardians (parents/police) who might prevent crime.
What do Wilson and Kelling say?
Broken Windows
- leaving broken Windows (noise, vandalism, graffiti) unpunished sends out signals that no one cares.
It behaviour is always left untreated, respectable people move out and the area becomes a magnet for Deviance.
What does Murray say?
Underclass
- Crime is growing due to a growing underclass
- Children in underclass fail to learn self control and are socialised into being criminals.
What are 2 right realism solutions of crime?
- zero tolerance policing
- CCTV, anti vandalism pain, central locking
What are criticisms of right realism?
- ignored wider causes such as poverty
- ignores corporate crime
