What is a Safety Petty Officer (SPO)?
SPO’s provide safety leadership and monitor safety practices for individual shop spaces.
What is a Mishap?
It is defined as any unplanned, unexpected, or undesirable event that causes injury, occupational illness, death, material loss, or damage.
What is the main planning tool to ensure a rapid response and analysis of mishaps, especially major mishaps?

What are non reportable mishaps?
- injuries to military members that occur off duty and do not result in days away from work, restricted duty, or do not require more than simple first aid
- injuries to military members that in the performance of their official duties that require no more than simple first aid
- pre existing injuries
- hospitalization extension for administrative reasons
- hospitalization extension for observation reasons
- minimal stress injuries
- death from natural causes
- non occupational illness/medical conditions
- illegal drug use
- intentional acts of violence or criminal activity
- intentional damage, injury or criminal activity
- conditionally predicted damage
- normal wear and tear of equipment
- testing and calibration
- bird and wildlife strike with no damage
- planned controlled jettison
- precautionary landing or aborted takeoff

- contractor mishaps
- property damage to cg non aviation property where damage is less than 5,000.00
