What is a positive symptom of scz?
Atypical symptoms experienced in addition to normal experiences, including hallucinations and delusions.
What are hallucinations?
Positive symptom. Sensory experiences of stimuli that have no basis in reality or distorted perceptions of things that aren’t actually there.
What are delusions?
Positive symptom. Involves beliefs that have no basis in reality.
What are negative symptoms?
Atypical experiences representing loss of usual experience like clear thinking or “normal” levels of motivation.
What is speech poverty?
Negative symptom. Reduced frequency and quality of speech.
What is avolition?
Negative symptom. Loss of motivation to carry out tasks. Results in lowered activity levels.
What is co-morbidity?
Two illnesses or conditions experienced together, e.g. having both scz and personality disorder, where two are classified together frequently, causes us to question the validity of classifying separately.
