SG 4.1 Flashcards
(8 cards)
1
Q
DNA
A
- Deoxyribose = sugar
- T (A=T)
- 2 helix (2 strands)
- 1 function (one storage)
2
Q
RNA
A
- Ribose = w/out O = sugar
- U(Uracil) (A=U)
- Folds over (singular)
- multiple structures = multiple things
3
Q
Both DNA and RNA’s same properties
A
- Phosphate group
- monosaccharide (sugar)
- Nitrogenous (Base)
- Nucleotide
- CH2
- Base pairing w/ hydrogen bonds
- sugar phosphate backbone
- A, C, G (G=C)
4
Q
Hersey-Chase Experiment
A
- Phages only injected their DNA into host bacteria, and that the DNA served as the replicating genetic element of phages.
- proved that DNA is the hereditary material.
- using radioactive sulfur and phosphorous
5
Q
Chargaff’s Rules
A
A=T, C=G
6
Q
Griffith and Transformation
A
- Bacteria are capable of transferring genetic information through a process known as transformation.
- Researching about Pneumonia
- Testing it on mice with different strains
7
Q
Avery and DNA
A
DNA was responsible for the genetic exchange of information
8
Q
DNA structure
A
Two long polynucleotide chains composed of four types of nucleotide subunits. Each of these chains is known as a DNA chain, or a DNA strand. Hydrogen bonds between the base portions of the nucleotides hold the two chains together
