They traveled from Rephidim, they came to the desert of
Sinai and camped in the desert. Israel camped next to the
mountain”
And there Israel encamped:
as one man with one heart but all the other encampments were in complaint
and in disagreement.
Rashi Question:
Why does it say camped in singular when it was
all of BY so it should be in plural?
Rashi Answer:
The use of a singular ver here teaches us that
this time when BY came they did it all together in agreement,
compared to the other times BY camped they were very mentally
separated.
