Sherif
prejudice in general can be socially sensitive because it can be upsetting
- focused on situational factors like competition between the boys which causes prejudice which could be SS bc researcher suggests those who are prejudice arent culpable for their own behaviour as certain groups like the media could cause competition
- seperate groups can cause prejudice based on sherif which can be used to create phobias

- researchers like cohrs et al suggests personality factors like RWA and SDO are indicators of prejudice leading to screening population with these traits
- situational theories like agency theory results in the view that not the individual’s fault which explains away the actions of the soldiers in the holocaust which is SS

issues we look at in cognitive not ss because memory models have little influence in society plus low mundane realism so any aspects of ss might not even apply to the real world

- How much each theory can explain dementia might be SS and upsetting for ppl wuth dementia in families
- Reconstructive can change people’s memories of events using stereotypes to restructure schemas therefore SS if this can influence people

Found differences in murderers’ brains compared to controls which could be used in society as evidence that violent acts are beyond their responsibility which may increase violent acts
SS if seen as influencing decisions about capabilitiy, guilt and responsibility of criminals which may influence whether they were found guilty or not

Hormones - we can altar hormones to increase and decrease aggression e.g medication to raise serotonin which is SS if we can influence these things
- Brendgen - if we figure out what is nature or nurture we are more liekly to alter nurture factors e.g school programmes to lower social programmes to lower social aggression amongst children which is SS about what the children’s parents or teachers are or arent responsiblle for or how they can be changed

Found a child could be conditioned to fear various stimuli, which could be used to condition soceity to buy products through advertising therefore SS as it can be used to change people’s behaviour.
Aversion therapy for homosexuality is socially sensitive

Becker SS because if people think eaitng disorders are from the media rather than biology is could influence how it’s treated.
- Operant Conditioning - rewards and punishment can be applied directly to alter behaviour of people against their will
schools can use strategies like token economy programmes to change the behaviour of pupils’ helping society to some extent but it’s SS if controlling the behaviour of other people
