Tinea capitis: Fungal infextion of the scalp most common in children. Scaly patches with alopecia and concomitant lymphadenopathy. This one has a keroin which develops when there is significant inflammation. Tinea capitis is caused by dermatophytes including trichophyton tonsurans, epidermophyton floccosim, microsporum canis, and microsporum gypseum. Tx with an oral antifungal like griseofulvin or terbinafine. Need to monitor for signs of hepatotoxicity with these drugs (pruritis, jaundice, ab pain, scleral icterus).
