Q

What are you teaching the client?

A

We want our clients to learn the difference between things.

You’re teaching the client to engage in behavior in the presence of an SD and in the presence of that same SD, you’re teaching them to not engage in behavior. You’re only reinforcing when they do what you asked them to and you’re putting everything else on extinction.

Q

How do we do Discrimination training?

A

Roleplay: we have a blue mark and yellow mark. I want the client to discriminate between the two. You would say touch, blue and they touch yellow you then put it on extinction and give corrective feedback (“oh no that’s yellow”) this time maybe prompt blue and say touch blue. This time they touch blue. Reinforce! then say it again, touch blue and reinforce when they do! Now touch yellow.

Q

SD

A

Stands for Discriminative Stimulus.

An SD is a cue or signal that indicates a specific behavior will be reinforced (rewarded). It essentially tells the learner what action to take in order to receive a desired consequence.
