-A human society is a group of people involved in persistent interpersonal relationships, often a large social grouping having the same geographical territory.
-it can therefore be viewed as the sum total of all the relationships in a given space e.g. country
-success in sport on a global scale is often viewed as an important measure of the relative status of a society
-for example, national identity and national pride are often sheaved as a result of success at events such as the Olympics

Primary socialisation

A

-this refers to socialisation during the early years of childhood which takes place mainly within the immediate family i.e. mother, father, brothers and sisters

  • A key process involved at this stage is the internalisation of a society culture where individuals absorb and accept the shared norms and values
  • people are constantly communicating within a group among family and close friends
  • much of the early basics socialisation occurs as a young child when families and friends teach basic values and excepted behaviour patterns

Primary socialisation

A
  • Play is a good way to learn how to share, interact and practice becoming an adult
  • For many families physical exercise provides the time when they come together whether it be shared involvement in an activity i.e. cycling or one or more family members being committed to devote their time to competing in physical activity

Secondary socialisation

A
  • occurs during the late years e.g. as teenagers and adults, when the family is less involved and other agencies Set up for the socialisation process and begin to exert more and more influence e.g. Peer groups, friends, schools
  • School is an important part of development, for example it can help with the socialisation process by teaching important moral skills such as cooperation, teamwork and learning to take responsibility for one’s own actions
