The Nervous System (paper1) Flashcards
What’s a stimulus
Anything your body’s sensitive to
What do sense organs contain
Receptor cells
What do receptor cells detect
Stimuli
What do receptor cells create
Impulses that are sent to the brain
What does the brain do with impulses
Processes it then sends impulses to other parts of the body
What do the impulses that the brain sends do
Cause some thing to happen(response)
What also detects stimuli
Sensory neurones
What’s the sensory neurone in your ear
Auditory nerve
What’s the sensory neutron in your mouth
Taste receptors in taste buds
What’s the sensory neutron in your nose
Olfactory receptor nerve
What’s the travelling of the impulses called
Neurotransmission
What’s the CNS
Central nervous system
Where does the impulse first go
Dendrite
Where does the impulse go after leaving the dendrite
The dendron and axon
What passes the impulse to other neurones
Axon terminal
What does the myelin sheath do
Electrically insulates the axon and dendron so the signal doesn’t lose energy
What are motor neurons
Neurones that carry impulses to the effectors
What do relay neurones do
Link motor and sensory neurones together in the spinal cord
What happens when an impulse hits a synapse
A neurotransmission substance is released and picked up by the next neurone
What are reflex actions
Actions that are immediate, automatic and protect the body
How are the reflex arcs fast
They skip the processing part of the brain
