A01-What is the aim?

A

-The aim of CBT is to challenge negative maladaptive thinking patterns and replace them its healthier ways of thinking.
-Most people with MH disorders don’t recognise their is anything maladaptive with thier thinking patterns-MH disorders are caused by faulty thought processes and cogtive distortions which lead to negative thoughts so the aim of CBT is to challenge faulty thinking patterns.
-CBT combines both cogtive nd behavioural elements in order to help the client.
-Cogtive-Therapist and client work together to identify and challenge negative thinking patterns
-Bheavioural-Client is encouraged to engage in reality testing which forms as part of HW.

What does CBT begin with?

A

Initial assessment-Therspsit and client discuss the problems the client is having,work collabatrivley to create a plan of action and set goals.

CBT-Step 1

A

Dysfunctional thought diary-forms as part of HW.
-Cleint is asked to be a record of events leading to automatic negative thoughts,the client then has to write a autaomotic negative thoughts associated with the event and rates how much they believe on a cale of 0-100%.
-The client then has to write a rational response to automatic negative thought in therapy.
-The client then re rates their belief in the automatic negative thought.

CBT-Step 2-challenging dyfunciotnal thinking patterns

A

-Involves cogntive restructuring-challenge irrational thinking patterns to replace them with more rational ones.Faulty thinking patterns are caused by cogtive distortions e.g catosphrising leads to anxiety
