unit 5 (cpr) Flashcards

1
Q

where to check pulse on each class

A

unconscious child + adult is carotid. conscious child + adult is radial. infants is brachial.

3
Q

electrical pathway of heart

A

SA node- cells depolarize and atrial contraction
the impulse moves down the AV node, then to bundle of his (AV bundle), up into the bundle branches via Purkinje fibers which cause ventricle contraction

9
Q

myocardial infarction

A

results from lack of blood flow to coronary arteries. could cause a cardiac arrest as blockage could prevent conduction of electrical currents though the heart

16
Q

pad placement of AED paddles

A

upper right and left under armpit. if pacemaker, just place the pad below it. if medication pad, take off and place paddles in correct spot. if skin is wet, dry the chest off.

17
Q

AED paddle placement on children

A

if AED arrives, finish CPR before placing. place in same spots as adult unless the child is too small and they touch, then place one over sternum and one over spine.

18
Q

what is you are doing on scene CPR and someone says the patient has a DNR

A

DNR can not be verbally confirmed, continue with CPR

19
Q

what does AED set up consist of

A

turning the device on, plugging in the pads, and putting them on the chest

20
Q

when should you not do CPR

A

valid DNR, dependent lividity, decomposition, rigor mortis, if scene is unsafe, decapitation

21
Q

when should you stop CPR

A

rescuer exhaustion, obvious signs of life, EMS arrives, physician orders you to stop, scene becomes unsafe

22
Q

what are some complications of CPR

A

gastric distention- readjust airway, regurgitation- immediately stop and turn head to clear airway, broken ribs

23
Q

what might cardiac arrest result from

A

electrical issue, lack of blood flow/oxygen (MI)
