What is an exudate?
The fluid that oozes through the tissues into a cavity or to the surface
What is a facultative aerobe?
A microorganism that prefers an environment devoid of oxygen, but has adapted so that it can live and grow in the presence of oxygen
What is a facultative bacteria?
Having the capacity to do something that is not compulsory, particular having the ability to live or adapt to certain condition
What is a facultative saprophyte?
Prefers live organic matter as a source of nutrition, but can adapt to the use of dead organic matter under certain conditions
What does febrile mean?
Term associated with fever
What is a fibroma?
An encapsulated tumor composed mainly of fibrous connective tissue
What is a focal infection?
One in which the organisms are originally confined to one area, but enter the blood or lymph and spread to other parts of the body
What is a fomite?
Any inanimate object to which infectious material adhered and can be transmitted
What does fulminating mean?
Having rapid and severe onset; usually fatal
What does functional mean?
A condition or disease in which there is no recognizable change in anatomy
What is a fungus / fungi?
A group of diverse and widespread organisms, lacking chlorophyll, usually bearing spores and often filomentous
What is a fungicide?
An agent that kills fungi and their spores
What is a furuncle?
An abscess or pyogenic infection of a sweat gland or hair follicle
What is gangrene?
A form of necrosis combined with putrefaction
What is gastritis?
Inflammation of the stomach
What is gingivitis?
Inflammation of the gingival tissue (gums)
What is glomerulonephritis?
Parenchymatous nephritis with pronounced lesion in the glomeruli
What is a general infection?
An infection that becomes systemic
What is general pathology?
The study of the widespread process of disease, without reference to particular organs or organ systems

A substance that destroys microoganisms
What is a goiter?
Enlargement of the thyroid gland due to iodine defeciency

Study of changes in structure of the body that are readily seen with the unaided eye as a result of disease
