A
As time critical.

What combination of symptoms is suggestive of epiglottitis?
A
• Stridor
• Increased work of breathing
• Drooling
• Absence of cough.

What does a cough and absence of drooling more likely indicate?
A
Croup.

What are other reliable signs of epiglottitis?
A
• Low-pitched expiratory stridor (often snoring)
• Preference for tripod/sniffing position.

It may precipitate respiratory arrest.
