Q

Hollembeak and Amorose (2005) studied whether the link between perceived coach behaviours and athlete motivation can be mediated by the 3 needs. What were the results?

A

All 3 needs predicted IM
Link between coach leadership and IM mediated by the 3 needs

However only 2 behaviours were significantly linked to needs and IM

  • autocratic behaviour (lowered autonomy/relatedness, weakly associated with IM)
  • democratic behaviour (high autonomy stringy linked to IM)
