Define morality
Morality is about behaviours that have consequences for others rights and psychological and physical well being.
What are the dual aspects of morality?
Inhibitive - the power to refrain from behaving antisocially
Proactive - the power to behave pro socially
What is pro social behaviour?
Voluntary behaviour intended to help or benefit another individual or group
What is anti social behaviour?
Voluntary behaviour intended to harm or disadvantage another individual or group
What are the dimensions of moral behaviour in team sport?
Pro social team mate behaviour
Antisocial team mate behaviour
Pro social opponent behaviour
Antisocial opponent behaviour
What is moral disengagement?
Cognitive restructuring of;
- harmful conduct
- ones responsibility for conduct/harm
- harm caused
- victim
Overrides usual self regulatory processes e.g. anticipated guilt

What is doping self regulatory efficacy?
Belief in ones capability to withstand personal and social influences encouraging the adoption of doping.
Bandura (1991) proposes increases in self regulatory efficacy should reduce moral disengagement.
What is empathy and how may it impact morel disengagement?
Tendency to vicariously experience emotional and cognitive responses to another individuals emotional state.
May impair MD because endorsement of deleterious conduct more difficult when one anticipates and experiences consequences of action.
