Meta - reflects athletes ability to accurately infer the coaches 3 Cs (e.g. My coach trusts me)

What is the effect of gender on the CA dyad?

A

Same gender CA dyads typically perceive higher quality relationships (as defined by 3 Cs)

Similarity attraction theory - attracted to others who are similar

However there are plenty examples of successful different gender dyads - it’s about finding common grounds e.g. goals

All female dyads generally more satisfied with training and instruction than other gender dyads

Lowest satisfaction generally from female coach - male athlete dyad

How can personality affect the CA dyad?

A

Shown to affect coaches perceptions of the relationship

Coaches of athletes who have less desirable personality characteristics (e.g. anxious or avoidant attachment styles) are more likely to think relationship quality is lower.
