What is prognosis training?

A
  • training ot perform at given point in time
  • ideal for athletes who only perform well in practice sessions
  • quality over quantity

How does prognosis training work?

A
  • athlete receives task from coach
  • athlete makes prognosis on own task performance
  • athlete performs task at given point in time
  • athlete discusses with coach whether prognosis has been achieved
  • reasons for difference between prognosis and perofrmance are discussed

What is simulation of competition and how does it work?

A

Trains uniqueness of competition

  • coach decides on task and time when task is performed
  • athlete takes time to prepare
    –> leads to rumination and -ve thougths
  • performance of task at time chosen by coach
  • analysis of performance and preparation of performance
  • combination between competitive simulation and prognosis training possible
  • intensification of trainiing through +ve or -ve consequences
  • make sure athletes know WHY there are +ve / -ve outcomes

A
  • practice means working on movement and actions
  • often automatically focus on mistakes
  • focusing on mistakes fosters fear of failure
  • brain needs dopamine ot learn –> praise
    -praise specific action

What are some other interventions that can help with anxiety and confidence?

A

“Developing strengths” - draw a hand and write strengths on fingers and hands

“The inner team” - 3 categories….
1. a characteristic/trait about yourself
2. a sentence/phrase that represents this characteristic/trait
3. how does it benefit you?

“Journey to your strengths” - an imaginary journey. Memory of situation in which athlete felt strong -> diving into that situation and creating a strength image that can be used whenever needed.

“The winning formula” - present tense, +ve connotation, simple sentences, repeat on regular basis, should feel good and be associated with confidence. e.g. “I am really good at this”

“Problems as pseudo giants” - if we face them, they become smaller. When solved, they appear less threatening

- What is the person afraid of?
- What is the worst-case scenario?
- How would this feel?
- How likely will this happen?
- What does anxiety look like? (tall, small etc)
