About Russian on Brainscape

What is Russian?

Russian is an East Slavic language and the official language in Russia, Kyrgyzstan, Belarus and Kazakhstan; it’s also spoken around close geographical areas such as Eastern Europe, the Baltic’s and Central Asia.

Russian is the eighth major language spoken with around 160 million people having Russian as their mother tongue. However, in terms of internet content, Russian is second only to English.

Russian majors may consider a number of career paths after graduation. Interpreters and translators are highly prized and many graduates are involved in international business--their Russian language skills, giving them the edge in Baltic commerce.

Learning Russian

Russian students will learn about Russian culture during the course of their studies but the real test comes in getting to grips with the Cyrillic alphabet consisting of 33 characters; many of which do not have direct phonic translations back to a character in English. Consequently, students will find they develop critical thinking skills as they master the language. Brainscape has been scientifically proven to make an ideal study tool for language students as they tackle large volumes of vocabulary learning and their correct applications.

There are thousands of Russian flashcards prepared by like-minded students to choose from on this page. You might like to link to other languages such as French, Spanish, German, and Latin. At Brainscape, you can also choose to create your own Russian flashcards with your course notes.

Learn Faster in Brainscape

Brainscape’s Confidence-based-Repetition (CBR) system offers students the opportunity to learn twice as fast and remember longer. Overturning traditional learning techniques, Brainscape aims to make a real impact on global education, with its free-to-use supercharged learning tool.

The CBR system is a fusion of active recall, metacognition, and spaced repetition. The CBR system’s rocket fuel is the learner’s metacognitive responses that power the algorithm to deliver flashcards at the optimal frequency for learning.
