principles orbits Flashcards
Image criteria Caldwell orbits
Superior orbital fissures should well be demonstrated and projected well above above petrous ridges
Superior and lateral orbits margins well visualized
Caldwell- orbits
8x10 cw
Structures
- superior orbital fissure
- super and lateral orbital margins
Erect, seated or prone
Place patients forehead and nose on table
Align midsaggital plane perpendicular to plane of film in midline of table
Adjust head so oml perpendicular to plane film
Central ray
35 degree caudad to exit orbits
Modified orbits waters- orbits
8x10 cw
Structures
- orbital floors
- superior and inferior orbital margins
Best for blowout fractures
Erect, seated, or prone
Align maidsagital plane perpendicular to midline ir
Chin and nose on table
Head so oml forms 55 degree angle with plane
Central ray
Perpendicular to exit acanthion
Suspend respiration
Image criteria modified waters orbits
Orbital floors well demonstrated
Petrous ridges seen overlying maxillary sinuses just below infraorbital margins
Rhese optic foramen
8x10 cw
Structures
- optic canal
- superior and lateral orbital margins
Right and left optic foramina taken for comparison
Erect, seated, prone
Align midsagital plane to midline
Chin and nose on table
Rotate head to side being examined and rest chin , cheek and nose aka three point landing
Center affected orbit to midline table
Adjust degree of flexion of head to place acanthionmeatal line of unaffected orbit perpendicular
Head so midsagital plane forms 53 degree angle to plane( head rotated 37 degree true pa)
Central ray
Perpendicular to film to exit center of orbit nearest to table
Suspend respiration
Image criteria rhese
Optic foreman visualized in lower quadrant of orbit
Optic canal should be demonstrated to cross section
Superior and lateral orbital margins well visualized
If patient can’t be prone- patient supine with midsagital plane midline of table.rotate head so Midsaggital plane forms 53 degree angle. Adjust acanthionmeatal line of unaffected perpendicular to film . Cr is perpendicular center to orbits that is elevated. Same structures shown but magnified because more oid
