There is a study that Kevin is performing to find out if how sunlight affects the stability of a Lego piece. What would be the independent and dependent variables and why?
The Lego pieces would be the dependent variable as it depends on other factors to change. The amount of sunlight received would be the independent variable as it is what’s being changed.
Why is a control group important?
Sets the standard for which you compare data
Write a hypothesis for if girls are more likely to go out with guys for hoco, if the guy wears a blue suit.
If a guy wears a blue suit for hoco and asks a girl out, then the girl is more likely to go out with him, because girls prefer the color blue on average, compared to the other standard suit colors (black, white, tan, grey).
In a bar graph with two bars and error lines that partially match up, what is this referred to as?
Less overlap.
Difference between direct and indirect graphs
In a direct line, both the x and y grow or drop together, but in an indirect line, the x is opposite of the y.
What does a longer error line of a bar graph mean?
In means that the data of that bar is less reliable and that the averages are far more spread out.
What does a testable statement look like?
If (ind +/-) then (dep +/-).
In a bar graph with two bars and error lines that don’t match up, what is this referred to as?
No Overlap.
If statistical data on a bar in a bar graph was accurate and reliable, the size of the error line would be long, medium or short.
Short.
What would a good control group for an experiment around seeing if adding fertilizer to carrots helps them grow? Why?
Growing carrots with no fertilizer added. This is because it shows us what the standard growing for carrots looks like, and allows us to compare it to the growth of carrots that were given fertilizers.
