2.1 Flashcards
(10 cards)
What is an isoptope?
A type of atom that is the same atom, just with different amounts of electrons.
C14 differs from C12 as…?
C14 has 2 more valence electrons and is unstable or radioactive.
Determine the mass of the atom, FE, if it has 26 protons, 26 electrons, and 30 neutrons?
56.
What can isotopes do for scientific research?
In the case of fossil dating, certain atoms and their isotopes can be found. Depending on if a type of isotope is missing or present, scientists can compare the ratio of the isotopes and find the relative date via that ratio.
Where are protons found?
Inside the nucleus of an atom.
Where can you find electrons?
Within the nucleus of a cell.
Where are protons located, what is the pattern.
Outside of the nucleus. 2, 8, 8……
What are the charges of electrons, neutrons, and electrons?
+, none, -
Which particle changes the element?
Protons.
Say all that apply, which element(s) change the mass of an atom?
Protons and Neutrons.
