Q

Stage 1 of transcription?

A

Initiation: TF bind to prometer/Enhancer regions to attract and prepare RNA polymerase to begin copying gene sequenece into mRNA.

Q

Stage 2?

A

Elongation: RNA polymerase breaks free of TF. A protective 5 cap is added to RNA. As RNA polymerase copies DNA, other proteins are reruted that splice out introns.

Q

Stage 3?

A

Termination: A poladenylation sites the termination. Sequence is recognized and cut. A polyatail is added to the end of the new RNA molecule. The longer the tail, the longer the mRNA will be in the cytoplasm and the more protein can be made from it.

Q

What does alternate splicing do?

A

KEeps difereant combinations of exons. Resulting in different protein structures.
