Q

Why is partnership important?

A

Partnership is important because although organisations can promote the reasons why it’s important to adopt healthy lifestyle choices they cannot force individuals to comply. For example, legislation bans smoking in the workplace and public areas, but doesn’t ban an individual from smoking in their own home.

Q

Preventative measures include:

A

Appropriate levels of nutrition and hydration, which promote good health wellbeing and resilience. Having a good diet, such as that recommended by the Eatwell Guide, is key good nutrition.Hydration is equally important, and this means having sufficient fluid in the body. Drinking plenty of water is important because it regulates body temperature, boosts the body’s immune system and supports the body’s organs to function as they should. Good hydration prevents the risk of developing some infections, constipation and poor health, well-being and resilience. Hydration is linked to the prevention of diseases because it supports good health, well-being and resilience

A

different initiatives to reach out to different communities, to maximise the potential for uptake of childhood immunisations. For example, Cardiff and Vale Health Board have developed a postcard with information for parents about all of the immunisations that are needed by children from the ages of 0-11. The postcard is available in eight languages including Welsh, English, Arabic and Farsi, to reflect the ethnic and language diversity within the health board’s area.

Q

Stress definition

A

Stress is defined as the degree to which a person feels overwhelmed or unable to cope as a result of pressures that feel unmanageable .

17
Q

Why is stress management considered a preventative measure?

A

because it reduces the harmful impact of stress.

18
Q

What can prolonged stress lead to?

A

Prolonged stress leads to poor health, well- being and resilience.

19
Q

What does naturally occurring stress include?

A

stress is naturally associated with life events that ultimately lead to positive outcomes. This includes sitting exams, moving house, changing jobs, going on holiday and preparation for a baby during pregnancy.

20
Q

What happens when an individual experiences stress?

A

their body triggers a ‘fight or flight’ response to activate the immune system. the body is designed to react in this way for short periods only, and stress shouldn’t become a way of life. When long-term stress happens, the body encounters continual wear and tear, leading to a person feeling constantly overwhelmed and unable to cope. This results in an increased risk of adopting harmful behaviours such as smoking, drinking alcohol over the recommended guidelines, eating unhealthy foods, physical inactivity or being obsessively active.

21
Q

What has stress been generally been linked to?

A

Stress in general has been linked to increased risk depression, anxiety and cardiovascular disease

22
Q

What’s stress management?

A

Stress management means taking action through interventions, to reduce the impact of stress and address its causes.

23
Q

A

• an individual taking responsibility for their own stress management, including identifying factors that are, and are not, within their control• supportive relationships with family, carers, friends, community and other social networks• making lifestyle choices that contribute to reducing stress• local and national strategies that contribute to reducing the causes of stress

24
Q

A

Ways in which to deal with stress

25

Making lifestyle choices that contribute to reducing stress is also important. Things that will help include not smoking, not drinking alcohol above the recommended guidelines, developing good sleep patterns and being physically active.
26
What are workplaces required to do?
Support and promote good health and wellbeing
27
What is some data that shows workplaces don't promote good health and wellbeing?
Health and Safety Executive Report found that in 2018-2019, stress, depression or anxiety accounted for 44% of all work-related ill health cases

30
How does the preventative measure immunisation programmes provide specialist support?
Immunisation programs provide specialist support by making information about vaccines accessible to people with different needs, like easy-read flyers for learning disabilities, audio versions for sight loss, and translations for those who speak different languages.
31
How does the preventative measure screening programs provide specialist treatment?
Screening programs provide specialist support by placing outreach workers in areas with low screening rates. They work to understand why people are reluctant to take part and find ways to overcome these barriers, making screening more accessible and improving early detection of diseases.
32
Other examples of specialist support include:
• Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS)• specialist cancer services and early intervention• support for managing hypertension, cholesterol, weight, diet and smoking• support for people with alcohol and substance abuse issues
