Direct discrimination
Means treating individuals less favourably because of their protectedcharacteristic. e.g. refusing to accept the booking of a same sex couple at a bed andbreakfast.
Indirect discrimination
Where a service, criteria or practice is applied to everyone but itdisadvantages some people more than others because of their protected characteristics.
Discrimination by perception
Treating a person less favourably on the assumption that they have a particular protected characteristic, irrespective of whether this is the case.
Discrimination by association
Treating a person less favourably because their parent, sibling, carer or friend has a protected characteristic.e.g treating a person less favourably because their parents is Muslim is discrimination byassociation.
