Defintion of a risk factors in health
relate to an individual’s risk or probability ofdeveloping a disease.
Defintion of life limiting diseases
Meaning they have no cure. E.g. heart disease and chronic liver disease. Interventions such as medication, surgery or changes to lifestyle canreduce symptoms, but a life-limiting disease cannot be removed or reversed once it exists.
Examples of risk factors relating to heart disease?
include obesity, physical inactivity and smoking.
Benefit of being educated on risk factors?
If an individual looks at a list of risk factorsassociated with heart disease, and realises they have a high number of factors will know that theyhave an increased chance of developing heart disease. So they can make chnages to their lifestyle, early intervention.
Defintion modifiable risk factors
which means that an individual can take action to prevent or control them. For example, an individual can choose to stop smoking and lose weight by increasingtheir level of physical activity and their intake of healthy foods.
Defintion non modifiable risk factors
means that the risks are there andnothing can be done about them. Examples of non-modifiable risk factors linked to heart diseaseinclude ethnic origin, age and hereditary factors such as having a family history of heart disease.
Defintion multifactoral inherited diasese
a disease that can have a genetic cause, but is also influenced byother factors such as environmental factors (e.g. air quality and living conditions) and lifestylechoices (modifiable risks). E.g. heart disease and type 2 diabeties
