Cell Transport - Facilitated Diffusion Flashcards

1
Q

facilitated diffusion

A
  • Moving from high to low
  • Moving through protein channels in the cell membrane which allow certain molecules across the membrane (large and charged molecules)
  • Example: Glucose moving in and out of red blood cells using a channel
  • Molecules match their channels so there are a lot of combinations (like the lock and key for enzymes)
  • there are hundreds of different protein channels for different molecules
  • requires energy
