- Bacteria and protists
- Used by higher life forms to grow and repair damaged body cells.
- Advantages:
- Quickly increases the size of a population.
- The organism does not have to use energy to find/court a mate.
- Disadvantages:
- Offers no genetic variation within a population.
- This gives the organisms less chance to respond to changes through natural selection.
