Cellular Energy - Chlorophyll/Pigments Flashcards

1
Q

light

A
  • Light coming from the sun, white light, is actually a mixture of all the colors.
  • The different wavelengths of light that we can see make up the visible light spectrum.
  • Each color we see has a different wavelength of light.

Q

pigments

A
  • Light absorbing molecules.
  • Chlorophyll is the principal pigment of photosynthesis.
  • Absorbs light from the blue-violet region and the red regions of the visible light spectrum.
  • Plants do not absorb much if any green light so that is why plants are green.
  • The wavelength that is being reflected is what we see.
    Replacing chlorophyll
  • These are used during periods of low light. (like fall and winter)
  • Carotene pigments absorb light in the red and orange region of the spectrum.
