Muczyk and Reimann’s 4 styles of leader behaviors – meaning of each one (4)
Democratic: maintains the idea of social equality, values input of followers in making decisions within the company
Autocratic: leadership controls the decision-making. Rigid distinction between leaders and followers
Directive: high amount of leader direction
Permissive: low amount of leader direction
Directive autocrat (3)
- low employee participation in decision making
- supervises workers closely
- good for quick decisions
Permissive autocrat (3)
- low employee participation in decision making
- leaders make decisions BUT allows staff to choose how to implement those decisions
- good for when task is simple
Directive democrat (3)
- Invites participation in decision making
- monitors workers
- good when making complex decisions
–> it gives a sense of direction
Permissive democrat (3)
- invites participation in decisions
- allows autonomy
- Ideal (in America) – good for trusted, highly skilled employees
Difference between permissive leadership and directive leadership in terms of work
Permissive leaves workers to decide how they achieve their goal while directive specify how the goal should be completed

Public leadership (3)
- Behaviours required to influence groups of people
- externally visible to others –> group building
- Eg: meetings
Private leadership (3)
- Behaviors influencing individuals
- Help develop agreeing individual goals
- Eg: getting to know the individual one on one
Personal leadership (4)
- Leadership qualities are shown by individual.
- Leadership ‘presence’ –> demonstrating the right attitude
- final and most crucial part –> impacts the other two
