Physical examination for returned travellers feeling unwell

A

Look for general findings e.g. pallor or rash? Does he look unwell?
Pulse, temp, BP, respiratory rate and oximeter reading
Check for important findings such as neck stiffness and photophobia (meningism)
Ear, nose and throat
Listen to his chest
Examine his abdomen
Check for any subtle signs of a change in his cognitive function

Blood test – FBC, CRP, U&Es, LFTs
Might need to also consider X-rays
