adrenaline Flashcards
(9 cards)
Where is adrenaline released from?
Adrenal glands
When is adrenaline released?
When blood glucose concentrations are low or in a fight or flight situation
What does adrenaline do?
Attaches to receptors on the liver and activates an enzyme which hydrolyses glycogen into glucose
What is represented by the first messenger?
Adrenaline and glucagon when they bind to surface receptors of cells
Which enzyme is activated after this?
Adenylate cyclase
Where is this enzyme found?
Cell surface membrane
What does this enzyme do?
Converts ATP into AMP
What acts as the second messenger?
Cyclic AMP
What does cyclic AMP activate?
Enzyme protein kinase which stimulates hydrolysis of glycogen to glucose
