Anatomy L.2 Flashcards
(22 cards)
Why do the mesonephric duct and tubule degenerate during female development?
- No communication between mesonephric tubule with the medullary cords.
- Lack of testosterone due to lack of SRY gene.
What surrounds the germ cells that for the oogonia during female development?
Follicular cells from the intermediate mesoderm
Both the testes and ovaries develop and the lumbar region, but differ in where they descend. Where do the ovaries descend and where do the testes descend to?
Ovaries —> pelvis
Testes—> scrotum
What does the fusion of the paramesonephric duct and the urogenital ridges form?
Transverse pelvic folds
What forms the uterine tubes?
Unfused parts of the paramesonepric ducts
What do the unfused parts of the paramesonephric ducts form?
Uterine tubes
What is the urogenital sinus derived from?
Endoderm
What do the sinovaginal bulbs form?
Vaginal plate
What are the 2 sources that develop the vagina?
- Upper part —> paramesonephric duct (uterine canals)
- Lower part —> urogenital sinus
What forms the hymen of the vagina?
The wall of the pelvic part of the sinovaginal bulbs that remains intact forms the hymen of the vagina
What does the urogential groove form during the development of the female external genitalia?
Vestibule of the vagina
Where does oogenesis occur?
In the ovary
What forms the ovarian medulla?
Primitive sex cords at the inner part of the gonad degenerate and get replaced by vascular stroma, which forms ovarian medulla.
Where are the ovaries located?
Ovarian fossa
What also degenerates in response to degenerating medullary cords in the female development?
Mesonephric tubule
What does the cranial part of the gubernaculum form?
Ligament of ovary
What does the caudal part of the gubernaculum form?
Round ligament of uterus
What is the peritoneal process following the gubernaculum that may be present?
Canal of Nuck
What are the remnant of the mesonephric ducts (or tubules madry), which disappear in females?
Epoophoron and paroophoron
What is the small part of the mesonephric duct that may remain and reach uterine wall or labium majus
Gartner’s duct
When does the canalization of the vaginal plate take place
By the 5th month
What is the embryonic origin of the broad ligament
Transverse pelvic fold
